The Christmas Orange

I'd like to tell you a story my grandmother told me when I was six or seven years old. We had gone to her home for Thanksgiving dinner and the drive was rather a long one. I had filled the time with making a list of all the things that I wanted for Christmas that year.Later that evening after I was ready for bed, I showed the list to my grandmother. After she read it, she said, "My goodness, that really is a long list!" Then she picked me up and set me on her lap in the big rocking chair and told me this story:
"Once there was a little girl who came to live in an orphanage in Denmark" (Now my grandmother was from Denmark, so this story might even be true.) "As Christmas time grew near, all of the other children began telling the little girl about the beautiful Christmas tree that would appear in the huge downstairs hall on Christmas morning. After their usual, very plain breakfast, each child would be given their one and only Christmas gift; small, single orange."At this point I looked up at my grandmother in disbelief, but she assured me that was all each child would receive for Christmas. "Now the headmaster of the orphanage was very stern and he thought Christmas to be a bother. So on Christmas Eve, when he caught the little girl creeping down the stairs to catch a peek at the much-heard-of Christmas tree, he sharply declared that the little girl would not receive her Christmas orange because she had been so curious as to disobey the rules. The little girl ran back to her room broken-hearted and crying at her terrible fate." "The next morning as the other children were going down to breakfast, the little girl stayed in her bed. She couldn't stand the thought of seeing the others receive their gift when there would be none for her."
"Later, as the children came back upstairs, the little girl was surprised to be handed a napkin. As she carefully opened it, there to her disbelief was an orange all peeled and sectioned." "How could this be?" she asked."It was then that she found how each child had taken one section from their orange and given it to her so that she, too, would have a Christmas orange."
How I loved this story! I would ask my grandmother to tell it to me over and over as I grew up. Every Christmas, as I pull a big, juicy orange from my stocking, I think of this story. What an example of the true meaning of Christmas those orphan children displayed that Christmas morning. How I wish the world, as a whole would display that same kind of Christ-like concern for others, not just at Christmas, but throughout the year.

Hello,it's me,Kathy B.

Hi all,
Well, here goes. We will see if this works. I am really excited about blogging, but am a little leery of whether or not I will be able to do it. Be patient with me, people, and I am sure I will figure it out. For starters, I am writing this and will see if it actually appears somewhere! If it does, I will go on from there.
Kathy K. I have been getting such a kick out of reading your posts...your dog sounds like a hoot. I hope he catches his "mouse". Aren't dogs fun? We love having our Maisy around - she is always good for entertainment. In fact we enjoy her so much we are adopting a new puppy - I am picking him up from the breeder this morning. His name is Murphy. He is a Westie just like Maisy. I will try to send pictures.

Learning Tip #1....question that was asked

Question: How can people know in the family if I have posted on my personal blog?
Answer: The family won't know that you have a new post unless they click on your name under "Visit Family Member Blog Spots" and look to see if there is a new one. I personally check all of those about once a day, to see how everyone is doing, or if anything new has posted.

Question: How can I post on the "Main" Judge page like Kathy and Eddy have?
Answer: Well you would log into your blogger site as usual, and in the dashboard there will be two blog areas, one should say Judge Family Blog and the other would be your personal one mine reads as, Just the Two of Us! Then click on New Post in whichever blog you have. Now if you don't see your name on the Contributors list on the main Judge page you have done something wrong or missed a step in the process. So you would need to email me and I will send you another invite. Each invite is only valid once. So if you need it resent, just email me at youbecrazywithme@yahoo.com and I will resend one out to you. If you still have issues, email me and I will try to help you step by step through instructions on your email.

Now, my question to all of you: I would feel horrible if I didn't get invites out to those that may like one. I am not sure that I have all your email addresses current. Will you please email me all of your family members Names, Email addresses, and their birthdays. I would hate for anyone to get left out, I wouldn't want to hurt anyones feelings if they are interested. Some that come to mind off the top of my mind include, Peter, Aunt Margaret, David Biederbeck, Doug, hmmmm our family has grown so much, so anyones would be great. Also let's say someone has more than one email address and you know this, please send me their other email addy's as they may check one more often then others. Thank you so much, and I hope this post helped answer your question.

LOL, maybe we could have a Blogger 101 class and a light lunch when I come down at Christmas Time. I am kidding. But if you really wanted to, maybe we could meet at someones house and I can walk you through the in's and out's of it all. Soon enough, like Feb we are moving to Arizona. Victors is in the process of transferring to the Arizona branch of his work which is on Baseline, so hopefully his transfer interview goes well on December 21st, so be praying for us okay?

December....Is it really here?

Hello Family,

I am so excited for those of you who have taken interest in this blogger thing. I think it can be lots of fun. I am noticing that we have family all over the world. Grandma has comments coming all the way from England. She must be famous. Many of you have wondered how you can post picture slide shows or even just pictures. I would like to recommend two sites that are free to registar with and very easy to use.

www.slide.com

and

www.photobucket.com

If you would like information or instructions on how to use these, let me know. If you perhaps want music on your page, www.bestvideocodes.com is a good site and its free. You search for code, and copy the code and paste it into your compose section of your post. If you need help with this, just let me know. Eddy is now on board! But does he have a person blog space? Let me know if you do Eddy so that I can add you to the links. I hope all of you are enjoying the preparation of the holidays. Email me if you need any help or post on this front Judge Page for all to see. My email is youbecrazywithme@yahoo.com , I can't wait to see everyone at Christmas. In fact that leads me to another question......Are we doing gift exchanges this year, or turning in recipes, or something like that? What could be fun is creating a DVD with all family members on it and putting music to it to give a copy to each family. I would be happy to do that, but its a huge project and I would need names ages and who belongs to who, emailed to me. Just let me know what ya think. Well have a great day! Much love, from the snowy mountains of Utah. ~Kathy Lynn
